James Hay

Managing Director

James joined BPP in 2013 after working for Baker Tilly as an Audit Supervisor. Prior to that he worked at EY as an Economic Analyst then Audit Associate/PQ Executive and where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. James also has a BA Hons degree in Finance, Accounting and Management which he gained at the University of Nottingham.

James’ main responsibilities are preparing and delivering high-quality courses within the ACCA, Foundations in Accountancy, ICAEW and Chartered Governance Institute qualifications.

James understands the students in his class and is very aware of what they look for in a tutor. His teaching style is to deliver in a wide range of formats, including annotation of the course notes; real life examples from his own practice career history and from his experience of training in the classroom.

He feels that a student’s understanding is enhanced by attempting practical examples once the technical content has been covered. Therefore, in class, question practice will be done throughout the courses to ensure every student can apply their learning to exam style questions, with detailed debriefs provided after each attempt.

James delivers examination courses for ACCA, Foundations in Accountancy, ACA, ICAS and The Chartered Governance Institute, and specialises in financial accounting, taxation and audit.
